Job Summary: An employee in this class performs various manual activities cleaning and maintaining buildings and functions as a crew leader for a few lower-level custodial workers. The employee also controls and performs routine maintenance to heating and air conditioning equipment on the worksite. The employee exercises considerable judgment in most activities. An employee in this class will solve most problems, including those referred by other workers, although complex issues will be referred to a supervisor. Errors will be revealed by inspection of work, and some errors may result in loss of time because of the involvement of other workers. Limited supervision is given to check the completion of tasks per instructions and standards of cleanliness. An employee in this class oversees the work of lower-level employees.
Reports To: Director of Maintenance and Environmental Safety
Terms of Employment: 12 months, with salary to be determined by State Salary Schedule.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Manage the daily needs of the schools through proper utilization of custodial staff.
- Ensure staff is properly trained and equipped to perform daily custodial tasks.
- Manage procurement of all custodial tools and materials required through liaison with Warehouse Manager.
- Ensure roles and responsibilities are known and adhered to/Perform routine inspections of district facilities
- Responsible for all special functions and activities that may require setting up and moving of equipment.
- Coordinates department’s staff.
- Participate in Continuous Improvement activity.
- Schedule department’s work in an integrated schedule.
- Plan work orders that require detailed information.
- Responsible for safety and regulatory compliance.
- Perform and Resolve general maintenance work orders assigned.
- All other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Demonstrate strong decision-making capability.
- People and technical leadership skills.
- Considerable knowledge of cleaning methods, materials, and equipment.
- Working knowledge of procedures to operate heating and air conditioning equipment.
- Skill in the use of small equipment used in routine cleaning.
- Ability to work with other people, including making assignments.
- Ability to understand and follow simple oral or written directions.
- Ability to keep simple records.
Physical Requirements:
- Must be able to occasionally lift and/or carry up to and over 100 pounds.
- Must be able to occasionally push or pull up to and over 100 pounds.
- Must be able to occasionally perform the following: climbing, crawling, work while standing on ladders, kneeling, crouching, overhead lifting, stooping, grasping, bending, handling, keying, balancing, and reaching.
- Must be able to repetitively use both feet and hands.
Qualifications:
- 5-10 years of custodial maintenance experience.
- 3 years minimum experience managing custodial crew.
- High School Diploma
