AFTER SCHOOL ASSISTANT  

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: 10 months, with salary to be established on the North Carolina State Salary Schedule. 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: 

  • Assist with planning and executing an educational program of age-appropriate activities for children in care and identifying each child’s individual capabilities and needs. 
  • Create an environment that is conducive to positive growth and development by participating with children in activities, enforcing safety and behavior rules, and intervening to limit inappropriate behaviors from occurring. 
  • Assist with the set-up of materials for activities and snacks including clean up, and with the implementation of the weekly schedule. 
  • Maintain constant visual supervision of children. Be on duty when children arrive unless special permission is granted by Program Administrator. 
  • Assist in the training and overseeing of assistant group leaders (age 17 and under cannot be left alone  with children) 
  • Take daily attendance (if required by the site coordinator) and keep all required reports pertaining to the group filed. 
  • Create a parent-friendly environment by establishing and maintaining effective communication with parents. 
  • Build good communication with the site coordinator and other staff to create a professional atmosphere.
  • Attend pre-service and in-service training as required. 
  • Become familiar with NC Child Care requirements and carry out accordingly. 
  • Advise the site coordinator of problems occurring with children. 
  • Notify the site coordinator first, if you are going to be absent (no last-minute calls please unless it’s that unavoidable with justifications). 
  • All other duties as assigned. 

QUALIFICATIONS: 

  • HIGH SCHOOL DIPLOMA 
  • BSAC (BEGINNING SCHOOL AGE-CARE CERTIFICATION) 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILL, AND ABILITIES: 

  • EXCELLENT ORAL COMMUNICATION SKILLS 
  • EFFECTIVE INTERPERSONAL SKILLS 
  • ADVOCATE FOR CHILDREN
